This is coming out in pieces since I am listening, pausing and commenting (I’ve been out of the country for a few days and I’m getting caught up). I made this very same point about tanning to anyone who would listen. I use to tan regularly (but not as much as some so I wouldn’t look 60 at 40) and mostly it is white people in the salon, and I have seen more than my share of white men in the salons. However I did encounter two black women in Houston that tanned. They did so because their pigmentation was uneven and they told me that it helped to even their tone. In California where I live now, it won’t be $11 for a $10 tan, it will be closer to $12. $10 x 8.75% sales tax = $10.88 then the 10% ‘white person tax’ $10 x 10% = $11. $11 + .88 = $12.88 for one 15 minute tanning session. $1 to Comrade Sam and .88 to Barbara Boxer’s botox treatment. I went to Searchlight NV last weekend on a charter bus and one of the riders ‘a supposed patriot’ said to me “well it does cause skin cancer so they are doing it to offset that cost” I was like WTF? I had to question first why she was on the bus with the rest of us. She never considered it as a racist tax until I pointed it out, so I thought maybe I was barking up the wrong tree.
