#129 The Right Doctor

Who could vote for both President GW Bush and President Barack Obama? A moderate! Specifically, Brendan Loy–lawyer, Tolkien lover and weather scholar. Brendan joins Melissa to talk about everything from absorbing terrorist attacks to Keynsian economics to the problems with Lord of the Rings. It’s a long one, but a good one.

I mentioned this on Twitter, but for what it’s worth, I just wanted to post the correction here that I did not, in fact, vote for Bush. I voted for Gore in 2000, back when I was a sophomore in college and more of a conventional liberal (pre-9/11). And I voted reluctantly for Kerry in 2004, having declared my allegiance to “Kerry Haters For Kerry.” However, I defended Bush countless times over the years, both against liberals who thought he “stole” the 2000 election, and against liberals who thought his foreign policy was inherently evil, and against liberals who thought he personally was evil or brainless or both, etc. etc. I think Bush was a poor president, and I disagreed with many of his policies, but I never loathed him like so many liberals do, and I have no doubt his heart was in the right place.
